  • Different methods used to input data are:
    • Keyboard/typing in data
    • A bar code (reader)
    • A magnetic stripe (reader)
    • Touch screen
  • Keyboard: A computer keyboard is a typewriter-style device which uses an arrangement of buttons or keys to act as mechanical levers or electronic switches.
  • Barcode reader: A barcode reader (or barcode scanner) is an optical scanner that can read printed barcodes, decode the data contained in the barcode and send the data to a computer.
  • Magnetic stripe reader: A magnetic stripe reader, also called a magstripe reader, is a hardware device that reads the information encoded in the magnetic stripe located on the back of a plastic badge.
  • Touch screen: A touch screen is a display device that allows the user to interact with a computer by using their finger or stylus. They can be a useful alternative to a mouse or keyboard for navigating a GUI.
