Explanation

Correct answer is option c. Bridge, Hub and Switch is network devices which operate at different levels of osi model.

  • Bridge: Bridges are used to connect two or more hosts or network segments together. Bridge operates at datalink layer of OSI model. They are usually repeaters with add on functionality of filtering content by reading the MAC addresses of source and destination. It is also used for interconnecting two LANs working on the same protocol. It has a single input and single output port, thus making it a 2 port device.

  • Bridges are like hubs in many respects, including the fact that they connect LAN components with identical protocols.

  • Hub: Hubs connect multiple computer networking devices together. A hub also acts as a repeater in that it amplifies signals that deteriorate after traveling long distances over connecting cables.

  • A hub is the simplest in the family of network connecting devices because it connects LAN components with identical protocols.

  • Switch: A switch is a multiport bridge with a buffer and a design that can boost its efficiency and performance. A switch is a data link layer device.

  • The switch can perform error checking before forwarding data, that makes it very efficient as it does not forward packets that have errors and forward good packets selectively to correct port only. In other words, switch divides collision domain of hosts, but broadcast domain remains same.

  • Proxy Server: A proxy server is a server (a computer system or an application) that acts as an intermediary for requests from clients seeking resources from other servers. A client connects to the proxy server, requesting some service, such as a file, connection, web page, or other resource available from a different server and the proxy server evaluates the request as a way to simplify and control its complexity.

  • Proxies were invented to add structure and encapsulation to distributed systems.
