How poverty is measured?

Explanation

Poverty is pronounced deprivation in well-being and compromises many dimensions. It includes low incomes and inability to acquire the basic goods and services necessary for survival with dignity. Poverty also encompasses low levels of health and education, poor access to clean water and sanitization, inadequate physical security, lack of voice, and insufficient capacity and opportunity to better one՚s life.

Two different types of poverty are:

  • Absolute poverty: It is a condition where household income is insufficient to afford necessities of life. (Food, shelter, clothing) .
  • Relative poverty: When households receive 50 % less income than average median incomes.

What do you understand by Farmer՚s cooperative?

Explanation

A farmers cooperative society is also known as agricultural society where farmers pool their resources for certain activity. It is a voluntary association in which farmers contribute for the benefits of the society.

  • The purpose of such cooperative society is to provide their farmer members with inputs for agricultural production like, fuel, fertilizers, seeds, machinery etc. It is a farm which runs on a communal basis under the cooperation of its members owned by a cooperative society.
  • Example: Farmers get benefits from economies of scale which helps in lowering the cost of inputs and other services like storage and transport.
  • Farmers cooperative society helps the farmer in improving the quality of the agricultural produce.
