How poverty is measured?

Explanation

Poverty is pronounced deprivation in well-being and compromises many dimensions. It includes low incomes and inability to acquire the basic goods and services necessary for survival with dignity. Poverty also encompasses low levels of health and education, poor access to clean water and sanitization, inadequate physical security, lack of voice, and insufficient capacity and opportunity to better one՚s life.

Two different types of poverty are:

  • Absolute poverty: It is a condition where household income is insufficient to afford necessities of life. (Food, shelter, clothing) .
  • Relative poverty: When households receive 50 % less income than average median incomes.

What are the indicators of poverty in a country?

Explanation

Poverty refers to the condition in which the people of a country lack monetary resources and basic standard of living. It depicts that the income level is so low that the basic human requirements can be met. People who are struck by poverty do not have proper housing facility, clean water, proper and healthy food, medical care. Every nation has its own threshold level of poverty which determines how many people in a country are living in poverty.
