Explain how fingerprinting systems can be used to help catch criminals.

Explanation

There is a presence of friction ridges on everybody’s fingers and palms. These ridges are in the form of a pattern containing archs and loops. The fingerprint examiner uses these patterns to compare an unknown print with a known print whether the print exactly matches the same person or not. However now a days DNA analysis is being used to identify criminals, the validated report of which is being produced by the forensic lab experts.

Explain the computer terms data logging, check digit, serial access, assembler, handshaking.

Explanation

A data logging means collecting and storing data over a certain period of time in order to record the actions of a system, network or IT environment. Any modification on a storage device or application related to data, files or applications storage can also be tracked using data logging. For eg collection of temperatures and sound frequencies.

A check digit is a type of redundancy check that can be used for error detection on identification of numbers. For eg Bank account numbers

Handshaking is defined as the process in which two devices initiate communication. During the process one device sends message to another device that it wants to establish a communication link. For eg while connecting one modem to another, the corresponding tones heard after dialing.

Serial access can be defined as one where data records are stored one after the other without following a proper sequential order. For eg storage of things on tape (video, music, computer data, etc. ) are always serial access.

An Assembler is defined as a programme that converts assembly language into machine language. For eg the GNU Assembler.
