- Implicit Deception- Occurs when the actual situation is so different from what the subjects expect that they behave under incorrect assumptions. In the most cases the subjects do not even know that they are in an experiment when in reality they are
- Technical deception occurs when the equipment and procedures of an experiment are misinterpreted. This occurs when subject are given a cover story about the purpose of an experiment but the real purpose is in fact are very different.
- Role deception occurs when other people in a study are misinterpreted. Another subject may actually be a confederate of the experiment or the experiment may post as a fellow student in a classroom
- Informed consent- A subject must voluntarily agree to participate in research without any coercion and must understand what the participation involves
- Debriefing- Explaining in some detail the purpose and the procedure of the research at the end of the study to the participants
