CIE Physics Paper-1: Specimen Questions 24 - 25 of 109
Question number: 24
What effect changes direction of water waves on moving from shallow water to deep water?
Refraction can be define as the wave or light deflect when it passing through one medium to another medium or density change at the interface of medium.
Diffraction and dispersion are contains of spreading. And reflection means throwing back of wave, light, etc.
In above figure wave travels from shallow water to deep water. And from figure wave deflect from its original direction. So from definition refraction is occurred.

If light enters glass, find angle of incidence ad refraction in the diagram below.
Angle of incident – 1, Angle of refraction – 4
Angle of incident – 2, Angle of refraction – 3
Angle of incident – 1, Angle of refraction – 3
Angle of incident – 2, Angle of refraction – 4
Angle of incidence is a measure of deviation of something from “straight on”.
The angle of incidence is the angle between ray incidents on a surface and the line perpendicular to the surface at the point of incident called the normal.
Therefore angle 2 is incident angle.
Similarly, the angle between the reflected ray and the normal is known as the angle of reflection.
Therefore, angle 4 is angle of refraction
