Write down the equation of the straight line through (0,3) which is parallel to y=4x+1 .

Explanation

Here, straight line through (0,3) is parallel to y=4x+1 , which has slope m = 4, by comparing to y = mx + c.

Line passing through point (0, -3)

Line passing through point (0, -3)

Showing the line which is passing through point (0, -3) and parallel to y = 4x + 1

So, the parallel lines always have same slope…… (I)

So, we can find equation for straight line passing through point (0,3) by using:

yy1=m(xx1) , where, (x1,y1)=(0,3) and m = 4… (from (I) ).

y(3)=4(x0)

y+3=4x

y=4x3 .

Describe in Detail

Kavya bought 24 books at a cost of £200 . She sold 18 books at £6 per book and 6 books at £8 per book.

(a) Calculate the profit or loss she made.

(b) Calculate this profit or loss as a percentage of the original cost.

Explanation

Here, Kavya bought 24 books at a cost of £200 .

So, cost price CP = £200.

Now, she sold 18 books at £6 per book: 18×6=108£for18books

She sold 6 books at £8 per book: 6×8=48£for6books.

So, total selling prices SP = 108+48=156.

(a) Here, selling price is less than cost price, so she made loss.

Loss=CPSP=200156=44£

(b) Percentage of loss of the original cost £200 :

So, £200=100%

Then, £44=?

44×100200=22%lossshemadeoftheoriginalcost.
