Figure shows nitrogen cycle; write down importance of bacteria in nitrogen cycle

Explanation

  • Many soil bacteria called as rhizobia; symbiotically interact with legume roots in process of nitrogen fixation.
  • The ammonia turns into nitrite by nitrifying bacteria in the soil that convert nitrite (NO2) into nitrate (NO3). They are called nitrifying bacteria because they increase the amount of nitrate in the soil.
  • There are denitrifying bacteria are present in the soil that convert nitrate (NO3) into nitrogen gas (N2) and the nitrogen gas goes back into the atmosphere.

So whole process of nitrogen cycles is carried out by different kind of bacteria.
