Uses-

  • This is national flower of Haiti so it has the symbolism and cultural value.
  • Many species are used as landscape shrubs
  • One species of this plant which is Hibiscus cannabinus is used in paper-making
  • It is also used for making cold beverage
  • Dried hibiscus is edible, and it is often a delicacy in Mexico. It can also be used as a garnish

Make a temporary slide to observe plant cells of onion and observe the slide under the microscope

Explanation

To make a temporary slide of given plant cell first remove its outer dry pink covering. Then Cut the onion bulb into two halves and take out a fleshy leaf, carefully pull out the thin white peel from its inner surface with a forceps

Cut a small piece of the thin onion peel with a blade/scalpel and place on a clean micro-slide. Add 2 - 3 drops of water onto the slide and spread the onion peel. Add a drop of methylene blue solution. Carefully place a cover glass on it ensuring that there are no air bubbles under the cover glass. Observe the slide under the microscope.

We will observe a number of compactly arranged rectangular cells separated from each other by cell walls. A thin membrane can be observed beneath the cell wall. The cell has a jelly – like substance containing a dense dark colored round body
